Before you apply

A sound application begins with choosing the right route.

01

Clarify your purpose and residence basis

Residence permits, EU residence rights and citizenship applications follow different rules. Begin with nationality, current status, family circumstances and the purpose of the application. Choose a form once the relevant route is clear.

02

Create a timeline

Record earlier permits, entries and departures, employment and relevant family circumstances. Keep authority decisions and letters available. A chronological overview helps identify missing information.

03

Check the current official guidance

Use the authority’s current page for your particular application to check the form, fee, place of application and any biometric requirements. Requirements vary between case types.

04

Submit a coherent set of documents

Gather the relevant documents and explain circumstances that could otherwise cause uncertainty. Keep a complete copy of the application, attachments and receipt.
